Morphology is load history.
Tokens of the map are cartilage contact patches.
Operating principle: Send the correct signals. Stop the ones that hurt. Listen.
Restoration is congruence + cyclic load + active control, together.
The Articular Surface Map treats hyaline contact patches as the tokens the nervous system maps as primary skeletal nodes. Cartilage is aneural; broadcast is peri-articular, subchondral, and capsular. That is a working model, not a proven named-surface circuit — do not overclaim it. Magnitude treats millimeters and degrees as comparable inputs; the bidirectional chain (lumbosacral ↔ pelvis/cup ↔ hip ↔ knee ↔ ankle ↔ midfoot ↔ heel) amplifies them. The operating principle is: send the correct signals, stop the ones that hurt, listen. Restoration, as used here, is congruence + cyclic load + active control, together. Morphology is load history. Educational geometry — not formal medical advice.

Tokens of the map are cartilage contact patches, not joint-angle goniometers. The chain is bidirectional. Naming a station is the on-ramp; overlap is not the whole map. Cartilage itself does not broadcast; peri-articular, subchondral, and capsular tissues do. This index is a labeled schematic of public stations, not measured anatomy.
Acetabular cup — socket geometry under the femoral head.
Acetabular cup — socket geometry. Edge loading hypertrophies rim; centering changes the contact patch. The femoral head writes only what the cup allows.
Calcaneal / plantar interface. Walking ground-reaction force enters here at about 1.0–1.5 bodyweights. That is not joint-reaction force.
Evolution
Form follows function: developmental and daily loading write morphology. The map and leftover motor strategy keep writing the next loading history. Geometric change is the first line of that loop, not the last.
Deep centered hip flexion is expected stimulus. The cup and head are built to meet there. Chairs delete that range for most of the day; the leftover map is then treated as normal.
A rotating cam is a dynamic collision — head-neck asperity meeting the cup through range — not a static bump on a still film. Pincer is rim hypertrophy under chronic edge loading. Both rewrite the contact patch. The map may update while leftover motor strategy stays until the new geometry is taught.
Hedge: the Articular Surface Map is a working educational model. It is not proven as a named-surface circuit. Do not overclaim it. This plate stays at geometry, map, and loading history.
Magnitude
Magnitude: millimeters and degrees are comparable inputs. The chain amplifies them. Wolff and Frost are the tissue side — form follows function; remodeling follows the history the map and the motor strategy keep writing.
Walking ground-reaction force peaks around 1.0–1.5 bodyweights. That is the force the ground writes into the foot. Do not mix it with joint-reaction force — a different, usually larger ledger that lives inside the chain.
Footwear, especially heel-to-toe drop, is a geometric boundary condition, not a moral category. Change the drop and ankle, knee, and hip starting angles change before the first step. The chain writes a new loading history from that.
